OUGD504: What Is Design For Print?

OUGD504
WHAT IS DESIGN FOR PRINT?

As a group we were asked to discuss and write down what we thought design for print was. We came up with the following.

- The consideration of the printing process before designing.
- The consideration of format and layout.

- The easiest way to mass produce design.
- Examples of print production: Books, posters, zines, leaflets, posetcards, stationary, billboard, packaging.
- processes for print: Screen printing, laser print, inkjet, lino, foiling, 3D, textile, stamps.
- A design intended to be physical.
- Communicating a message in a physical way via a printing process.
- What is printing? Is it only when ink is involved or are processes such as embossing and engraving printing.
- Designing for print is finite, where as designing for web is dynamic and can always change.
